During the quarantine, Pornhub offered free access to its Premium content, which would normally require payment. The news spread and reached me, leading me to investigate the comments people left below the videos. Some shared their kinky thoughts to add a spicy touch, while others provided reviews as if they were expert film critics, evaluating the performances, dialogues, settings, and chemistry between the actors. There were also those who addressed issues such as pornography addiction, while others were simply auto-generated comments.
Additionally, there were those who shared random thoughts and amusing considerations, such as: "This is hot, but my incinerators are hotter," "This is not a Minecraft building tutorial," "Almost as fascinating as gravity."
This touch of humor prompted me to collect all the funny comments, in the form of screenshots, and create a book from them. These comments demonstrate, more or less consciously, that what is shown should not be taken seriously precisely because it is pure fiction.
Pornography is nothing more than merchandise, a human artifact that has nothing to do with the eroticism, sexuality, or love that are, in contrast, real, intimate, and impossible to categorize. Approaching pornography in this empathetic manner is equivalent to loading it with meanings it does not have and, most importantly, not fighting against it.
Bergson argued that laughter works when mechanical behaviors, clichés, and automatisms intrude into our lives, which are the main attributes of pornographic content: perhaps this can help us laugh, in a way, at it, precisely because it is something laughable and outside of reality.
